I'M NINA
...but you can call me Vagavoice.
I’m an actress, voice-over, songwriter, sound healer with the voice and talent coach with over 20 years of experience in the field of performance excellence.
I'm also a traveller, an explorer and an advocate for Planet Earth always on the move.
MY STORY
I was born in Sardinia, in a small village by the sea, growing up in the most wonderful environment, surrendered by the wonders of nature.
Despite being often on my own, I never suffered solitude, learning from the very beginning how to make the most of my circumstances by spending my time nurturing my creativity and developing a strong interest for arts and music. As a wanderlust young soul fascinated by all about travels and new cultures, I eventually moved to the UK as a teenager to graduate in Performance Techniques.
My family at the time was hoping for something different for me, but my plan was already in place and only four years later I was also ready for my degree in Jazz music. It was around that time that I also discovered my passion for theatre and acting, eventually getting into drama school (quite late, at the age of 27!) and completing my third qualification in stage and voice acting.
By that time I was already thriving as a performance coach and voice teacher, helping students of all ages and abilities expressing their talents and authenticity.
Before I even realised it, I had spent a total of 10 years dedicating to mastering my talents and to learning all about transferring my knowledge to others and support growing talents.
It was now time to take the stage and go do the real work!
After some time touring with several shows and gigs across Europe and working as a lead performance coach and voice teacher, I was lucky enough to land a role in the London West End show The Woman in Black, which kept me very busy with over 1000 performances.
It was after a few years as a full time actress that I had to face my biggest challenge ever, a challenge that I’m now happy to say, changed my life for the better.
I was diagnosed with a severe autoimmune condition which, according to medical opinion, would lead me to permanent disability. I soon realised that I had to make some changes in my life and in my habits, and that these changes had to be sustainable in the long term. I had to re-plan again and I had to find a way to express my talents, share my message, and pursue my desire of travelling the world despite my condition.
I knew I was starting to experience physical limitations but I also knew that I still had my voice, and that’s what I decided to start again from.
It all started by setting the goal to become a successful voice-over in the advertisement field, and it’s now been 8 years since I landed my very first international campaign for a very famous smart phone.
I grew up in a family that in some ways didn’t really believe in my choices, until I had to prove them wrong time after time.
They never tried to stop me, but conversations were often discouraging and mostly about that same recurrent topic: finding myself a conventional job.
The year my condition started to worsen I was still a full time employed actress and I remember going to my dad being really excited about my very first voice demo: “Hey dad, what do you think? I want to get into voice-overs and I want to do it high level”.
“Well Nina, dreaming costs nothing. But why don’t you also look for a real job while you try with that?”
And I kept wondering…”what’s exactly a real job?”
I guess he was just being more on the realistic side, perhaps trying to protect me from disappointment.
However, the next time he heard one of my clips was when I called home from London and I told them: “Hey guys switch on the TV, when you see the Amazon advert, that’s me”.
The thing is that all that light in you, all that talent, all that determination to make an impact and to live the extraordinary, becomes clearly visible to others only once it’s acknowledged by you, for real. We have to work everyday so that our beliefs are not only strong but also supported by action. And when you really believe in yourself and in your potentials and take action for it, that’s when your inner light becomes a shining light visible to all.
In fact, so many sessions in the studio came after that first one. I can’t even keep track of them.
I am lucky to give my voice to amazing brands and projects on a daily basis now, clients such as Peroni, Huaweii, Pantene, Samsung, Liu Jo, Lavazza, Amazon, you name it!
This story is obviously not the whole story, the road was way more bumpy that this.
But I know all this would’t have happened if I was let to travel an easy road. If I hadn’t embraced the challenges I encountered and turned them into an opportunity. The opportunity to grow, to get to know my potentials from a very close and intimate perspective, the opportunity to build a new dream out of my unique talents and authenticity. The opportunity to explore a mindful approach to life and to arts and to connect with my mission, which was kindly shown to me by all the obstacles I encountered.
I’m living my dream life which is now closer than ever to my true nature and my deepest desires: serving others through my talents and expertise while travelling the world.
And now that my days are filled with recording sessions, mentoring meetings, mindful practises and a new landscape almost everyday, I have achieved my ultimate definition of success.
My creativity is fulfilled in the studio, my heart is warmed by serving others and witnessing their results, my health improves with doing what I love, my curiosity is satisfied by new travels.
Vagavoice is the essence of who I am.
Vagavoice is a voice that never stops embracing challenges, is the voice of those who don’t believe in the impossible.
Vagavoice is a travelling voice that embraces freedom as the ultimate destination.
It represents the freedom to be your authentic self, to make unconventional choices, freedom to express your talents, freedom of movement, freedom to fuel your curiosity.
Afterall, what’s the most portable tool we have, if not our voices?
Happy journey,
Nina
